    The Mahdist War (Arabic: الثورة المهدية ‎ ath-Thawra al-Mahdiyya; –99) was a war of the late 19th century between the Mahdist Sudanese of the religious leader Muhammad Ahmad bin Abd Allah, who had proclaimed himself the "Mahdi" of Islam (the "Guided One"), and the forces of the Khedivate of Egypt, initially, and later the forces of on: Sudan, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Uganda. The Sudan Archive was founded in , the year after Sudanese independence, to collect and preserve the papers of administrators from the Sudan Political Service, missionaries, soldiers, business men, doctors, agriculturalists, teachers and others who had served or lived in the Sudan during the Anglo-Egyptian Condominium.
